? Why We Are Participating ?
My name is Emily and I am the mum of a super hero, Annabella.
Annabellas story started very quickly and 11 weeks before it should have.
At just 29 weeks and 1 day gestation Annabella's movements reduced, it was a Tuesday 3pm. After receiving medical treatment and advice it was decided that her best chance for life was to be born right there and then. At 5.52pm on Tuesday the 2nd of August 2016 she was born via Emergency Classical C-Section at 1.140kgs in a hospital that couldn't care for babies under 2kgs. She had an APGAR score of 1, she took her first breath and was then put on a ventilator.
She was sent to the Royal Children's Hospital Melbourne, like so many children born to early or sick in hospitals that can't offer the specialist care and machines needed.
Annabella spent 3 months in the Royal Children's Hospital before being sent back to a hospital close to home.
In the time we had at the hospital we met families from all over Australia who had been sent to different hospitals sometimes states away from home.
We decided to sign up for Run for Prems to help raise funds to support the hospitals that are in need of the equipment needed to keep these babies close to home.
Imagine if every hospital had the same equipment? Family's would be able to stay close to home and more lives would be saved.
