NICU Ninja's
Hello team!!!! many of you know our little NICU Ninja's Oliver and the beautiful sisters, Mahlia and Lilah. Oliver (25 weeks and 535g) and Mahlia (24+2 weeks and 420g) were NICU buddies and shared a room for much of their neonatal stay and in that time their parents, Dani and Roger and Rhiannon and Andrew forged a friendship during this intense time!! Since then our families have had lots of fun times together which has cemented our bond that started when our children were sick and tiny premature babies in Flinders Neonatal Unit. Dani and Roger were second time NICU parents as they had already ridden this crazy rollercoaster of highs and lows with their firstborn daughter Lilah who was born at 27 weeks in 2015. In 2020 Dani and Rhiannon completed the Premmie Marathon Challenge, during this time Mahlia was still very unwell in hospital! In 2021 they both worked with a neonatal parent team and Running for Premature Babies and The Flinders Foundation to raise funds to purchase a NAVA Ventilator, which the unit did not have when Mahlia and Ollie were in the unit and access to one of these would have helped them both immensely with their very undeveloped lungs. This event was held in memory of the beautiful Willow Bone who was in NICU with Ollie and Mahlia and sadly passed away the day before her first birthday. Throughout their stay in the neonatal unit both families realised how much of the equipment these babies need for survival is so often donated because the hospital doesn't have enough of it. Both families are incredibly grateful for the treatment and beautiful care, from the incredible nurses and doctors, our children received in their neonatal journey we believe it is important and want to give back to those who are on or yet to commence their neonatal journey.Thank you to our Sponsors
