Why we are trekking to save the lives of premature babies. Will you help?
My bestie Na and I are heading to the Iconic outback of Australia to trek the Larapinta trail to recognise two very special premature babies - Joe Blackwell, and my own daughter Georgia Jones who arrived way too early 22 years ago. The trek will be over 4 nights and will take us way outside our comfort zones with some 2am starts and long hikes through many different terrains and weather conditions. I cannot wait to experience the outback of Australia is its most beautiful form and knowing that I am there to raise money for premmie babies will keep me going.
In 2019 my dear friends Jayne and Mike Blackwell lost their little boy Joe. He arrived at 30 weeks and also had a complex cardiac defect to contend with. This combination of his prematurity and his heart condition was too much for him and he died aged 5 weeks and 1 day. My Georgia is now a healthy 22 year old because of the amazing care she received in the NICU at The Royal in 2003. So, Na and I are walking as a tribute to Joe and to help give other premature babies that same fighting chance as Georgia. If you can spare a few dollars, it really makes a difference.
