Premmie Marathon Challenge 2026

Our story, and why this cause means so much to me

Navy was born just one day shy of 37 weeks, so whilst he wasn’t technically premature, his first six weeks of life were spent between the NICU at Monash Children’s Hospital and the PICU at the Royal Children’s Hospital.

After discovering his heart condition during late pregnancy, our world became one of hospital admissions, monitors, medications and an uncertainty no parent ever expects to face.

During those first six weeks, Navy relied on so much of the incredible medical equipment and technology that this amazing cause helps fund. As a mum, watching your tiny baby depend on that equipment is something you can never truly prepare for, and prior to Navy’s birth I was privileged enough to know very little about.

Without the life-saving equipment, research and the absolutely incredible doctors, nurses and care teams who looked after our little boy, our story could have been very different. We will be forever grateful for the care Navy received and for everyone who made it possible for us to bring him home.

This November, our little run club is taking on the Premmie Marathon Challenge, collectively covering 71km to raise money for Running for Premature Babies. Every day in Australia, 71 babies are born prematurely, and the funds raised will help provide life-saving neonatal equipment and research to give these tiny babies the best possible start at life.

Because of Navy, we know firsthand just how vital NICU care, medical equipment and research are for babies and their families. No family ever expects to find themselves on the other side of those NICU walls, but so many do.

If you can spare even $1, any donation would mean the absolute world to us. Every kilometre and every dollar helps make a difference to families who find themselves walking a journey we know all too well.

Thank you from the bottom of my heart for supporting such an incredible cause. You’re helping more babies survive and thrive. 💜
