This November I’m taking on the Premmie Marathon Challenge
I used to be a runner… a long time ago now ? but what better way to lace up again than for something so close to my heart. It might be a slow start, but every step is for Everly and for the incredible NICU that helped bring her safely into the world.
Our journey with prematurity began when our daughter, Everly, was born unexpectedly at just 33 weeks. What followed was six long, emotional weeks in the NICU - the hardest weeks of our lives. It was a world we never imagined we'd be part of, filled with beeping monitors, tiny tubes, and an overwhelming mix of fear and hope. It wasn’t the start to motherhood I had pictured, and nothing can truly prepare you for watching your baby fight so hard, so soon. But in that space, we also witnessed incredible resilience in Everly, in ourselves, and in the NICU team who cared for her. Although Everly is now a thriving 7-year-old, the experience left a permanent mark on our hearts. This November, I’ll be running 21kms to raise vital funds for NICU equipment, because no family should face those early days without the support, care, and resources they desperately need. This is for Everly, and for all the little fighters still on their journey.
