I'm running to help save lives

I’m running 10K three months postpartum to raise funds to support Running for Premature Babies in giving these premature babies a better chance of survival through donations of life saving hospital equipment, and I’d really love your support.

When I found out I was pregnant I never imagined that I would be a NICU Mum, however on the 9th of December our Marcy made an early entry to this world at only 35 weeks and weighing only 2.1kg. I had a very unplanned and rushed category 1 emergency cesarean due to my Eclampsia and HELLP syndrome. Unfortunately due to my high blood pressure, and being early, Marcy’s lungs were not fully developed so she required CPAP breathing support in the Bathurst Special Care Nursery. After three days, she was declining and ended up developing two pneumothorax, so she was flown to the Nepean NICU by the NETS transport team. Marcy spent a week and a half on a ventilator, with two chest drains, a feeding tube and jaundice. After three and a bit weeks we were transferred back to Bathurst Special Care Nursery, and managed to come home just before New Years! 

She is doing really well now and is such a beautiful and happy baby. 

Without the lifesaving equipment, resources and amazing hospital staff the outcome for us may have been very different and we count our lucky stars everyday. I hope that more rural hospitals can be equiped with these resources, so other premature babies have a better chance of survival.
