Point to Pinnacle to celebrate Lewis and William

This year, on the 19th of November, I’m running the “World’s toughest half marathon”, the Point to Pinnacle. 21.1km from Hobart’s waterfront, to the top of kunyani, to raise money for a very special organisation “Running for premature babies”. All money raised will go towards supplying lifesaving neonatal equipment and undertaking vital research to give thousands of premature babies a better chance of survival.

This effort is to celebrate two very special baby boys, that I will love forever, along with their wonderful parents, and gorgeous big sisters. Both brave boys were born prematurely at the Royal Hobart Hobart.

Lewis and William.

Last year, beautiful Lewis was born. I would’ve doted over that little boy, like his big sister, with the same love I have for his wonderful parents, our dear friends Zoe and Michael. But it wasn’t so, and their worst nightmare unfolded. Lewis was born perfect in every way, but he had a broken heart. And in his passing, he has left everyone with a broken heart too.

Lewis, a little mate that I’ll never meet, but I will always include him in our lives. I wanted to do something special for him, to celebrate him. I love kunyani, I love running, so why not get him to the top of the mountain. To scream his name on top of beautiful, spiritual kunyani. I’d have him in my heart, we’d do it together.

It didn’t eventuate last year, but I committed to myself to run it this year. But between then and now, our whole world was flipped upside again.

William. Our incredible nephew. Born to Zoe and Rohan. The best team, so stoic, so strong, eyes only on William and the horrible rollercoaster in front of them. One foot infront of the other, full focus and full hearts for their little boy.

William was born at 25weeks, and against all odds, he came screaming into the world. And his ferocity is yet to stop. This miracle boy, born 15 weeks early, weighed only 452grams. (Next time you’re at your fridge, grab your duck river tub, hold it; 500g. Let that sink in).
Zoe and Rohan have barely left his side, have completely smothered him in love and cuddles, and he’s also received fantastic care in the NICU at the RHH. He is now 16 weeks old, it’s passing all his tests and as of today he weighs 3kg.

He’ll hopefully be home by Christmas. One day he’ll be running around with Fred and Nancy, and all this will be behind him. I’ll look at him and I’ll forget where he started. But for now, I celebrate William; he is so brave and strong, and I run for him too.

There are soooo many stories like these. Utterly heart-wrenching, and completely inspiring. They happen each day. And unfortunately they’ll keep happening. So here, I ask for your help. If you can, please donate. $1, $10, $100. Whatever you can, it all adds up.
