Isaac

Remembering ISAAC

Isaac Grant Bourne was born at 23 weeks and 6 days at the Royal Hospital for Women in Randwick on 27th October 2012.

He was given a 50% chance of survival but despite this continued to surprise the doctors daily meeting his milestones. About three weeks after his birth, mum Kate and Isaac got their first cuddle for about an hour.

A few days after this, Isaac began looking unwell. Scans revealed a perforation in his bowel. This was the start of a difficult few days for Isaac, as he struggled to breathe, stay awake and fight infection.

After 26 days the infections and damage to his body became too much, with no chance of recovery. Kate and Grant remember a 'wonderful' last day together with their son, getting him baptised and giving him "all the cuddles and love we could before saying goodbye".

Early the next year, a wonderful friend of the family decided to join Running for Premature Babies in the SMH Half Marathon in honour of Isaac. The first year "Team Isaac" ran as a team of 5, with many friends and family joining over the last 10 years to raise over $100,000 in his memory.

Kate also joined the RFPB volunteer committee giving up hundreds of hours of her time to help grow our charity.

In 2022 Kate and Grant are organised a Running for Premature Babies Kids Fun Run in Wagga to celebrate Isaac's 10th birthday.
