Bentley's 1st Birthday - Help us give premature babies a better chance of survival
After a completely uneventful pregnancy we were told at 30 weeks that our baby was not receiving enough blood for him to continue to grow at the rate he needed to. I was admitted to hospital and had to have scans daily to ensure he was still safe. His rate of growth didn’t pick up and at 34 weeks and 3 days after a failed induction Bentley was born via emergency c-section at 5.35pm weighing just 1.5kg and 40.5cm long and was immediately taken to the Special Care Babies Unit (SCBU). Whilst in SCBU he received continuous heart rate and oxygen monitoring, an intravenous glucose drip, countless blood tests, milk via a nasogastric tube and he needed to be in a Humidicrib as he could not control his temperature on his own. Thankfully we were able to take him home after just 17 days where he continued to be cared for by the amazing nurses and midwives from the Women’s and Children’s Hospital. We can’t believe that a year has already passed and Bentley is so happy and healthy and loved by all of his family and friends. We can’t thank everyone enough for all of their support over the last year, we definitely couldn’t have got through it without you!
